So, What is Online Hypnotherapy?
Well, it’s pretty much the same as face-to-face therapy. With the obvious exception that both you and your therapist are interacting via the internet, using any device that has an internet connection. Such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone.
What is it? How and why did it become a thing?
Online therapy isn’t a new phenomenon, people were engaging with this type of therapy way before the pandemic hit us. But what the pandemic did was force people to try doing things differently, some found that those changes resulted in benefits that actually outweighed the traditional modes of working.
I’ll be absolutely transparent here, as there are benefits to suit both you and me when it comes to online therapy.
But before you hear about why online therapy is right for you, let me just take a second to mention quality. As long as there are a certain few criteria that can be satisfied, then there is absolutely no reason whatsoever for there to be any reduction in the quality of therapy you receive.
To work together, firstly, you and I will need to be able to have a clear and uninterrupted conversation. Secondly, I will need to be able to see you, as there are key ‘tells’ that you will display that indicates to a therapist that you’re ready for the next stage of your session.
Above all else, however, is that you need to have the right attitude towards your therapy session. You need to be open-minded not just about hypnotherapy, but about your ability to work online with your therapist. If you are committed, your therapy will be a success.
So, the benefits?
You can experience so many benefits from choosing to embrace online therapy.
Let’s start with cost. As I don’t need to rent a premises, or pay for all the costs associated with owning, maintaining and running my own building, I save a little money and I can pass those savings on to you!
And guess what, you don’t have to pay for fuel, parking or for any public transport costs to get to my premises either.
Online therapy is also incredibly convenient. You don’t need to waste time travelling to and from your appointment, and you can enjoy your session from the comfort of your own home. Being able to properly relax is an integral part of hypnotherapy, and some people find this difficult in a new environment. So where better for you to achieve the relaxed state of hypnosis than your own home environment?
Being able to work together online is also important if you have difficulties leaving your home. Whether those difficulties are psychological (agoraphobia) or physical (mobility issues).
Online therapy is also a little more discreet than a face-to-face appointment. Not that seeking help is ever something to be ashamed or embarrassed about. But let’s be honest, there is still a stigma attached to seeking psychological help. But with online therapy nobody needs to know where you’re going or what you’re doing. And there is no chance of bumping into a ‘nosey neighbour’ on the high street just as you pull up outside the hypnotherapy clinic.
I can also assure you that confidentiality is of paramount importance to me. Nobody will be able to see my computer screen nor will they be able to overhear our conversations from where I’m located. It goes without saying that I will ensure your personal details are secure by keeping my computer’s malware protection updated, and I comply with all General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) recommendations.
With online therapy you also get a wider breadth of choice of therapists. Research suggests that the therapeutic relationship, how well you and I gel and are able to work together, can be more important than the type of therapy you’re engaging with. One of the things I’ll mention in our initial consultation is that if you feel as though the chemistry isn’t quite right, then please tell me so. I can promise you I will certainly raise such doubts if I have them. And because you aren’t restricted to your local high street, there will be a number of other online therapists out there to whom you may be more suited. I even have reciprocal agreements with a select few (i.e.quality) Hypnotherapists (and therapists that deliver different modes of therapy too) who I trust, and I would have no issues making a referral for you to them.
On a Practical Note
By this point, I’m hoping you’re at least open to the idea of online hypnotherapy, if not already convinced of how you can benefit from therapy delivered in such a way.
So you may be thinking, on a practical level, what do you need to allow you to make the most of this opportunity? It’s quite simple really:
- An internet-connected device, such as those mentioned at the top of this post
- A reliable internet connection
- Somewhere private you can sit without being disturbed, such as a comfortable chair or you could ever sit propped up in bed (lie in bed at your peril. If you find yourself too relaxed you may…zzzzzzz)
- A way for me to contact you if our connection lost, as well as an emergency contact
And that’s it! It really is as simple and easy as that.
